'Not Just Tourists - Edmonton' was initiated in Edmonton in January
2005 and is patterned after 'Not
Just Tourists' in the Niagara Region, a highly successful
program that has been in existence for more than a decade. Prompted
by their success, numerous other 'Not
Just Tourist' have come into existence across Canada.
'Not Just Tourists' is 100% a voluntary humanitarian organization. We collect surplus medicines and medical supplies for use in Cuba and other developing countries. Canadians traveling on business or vacation deliver these much-needed supplies to doctors and clinics at their travel destinations. Donated supplies are packed in donated suitcases, which the traveler delivers to a designated recipient. Since the vast majority of medicines and medical supplies are donated, we do not solicit money for the organization. This delivery of humanitarian aid complies with the laws of the recipient country and Canada. It is a valuable contribution to people in need of medications and medical supplies. 'Not Just Tourists' provides a unique and rewarding opportunity to meet with people abroad – outside of the tourist industry. |
